The collection of the Ōta Memorial Museum of Art consists of about 14.000 pieces of ukiyo-e works in total which includes about 12.000 pieces of works collected by late Seizō OtaⅤ. The collection has a remarkable character, not only masterpieces by Kitagawa Utamaro, Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige but also masterpieces of ukiyo-e from its origin through all stages. Moreover, the collection contains both masterpieces of nikuhitsu-ga painting and ukiyo-e wood-block prints, which are two substantial portions of ukiyo-e, which were one of the world leading private ukiyo-e collections.
